Pilot Project: Las Brisas, Nicaragua

The Poultry Institute launched its pilot project in Las Brisas, Somoto, Nicaragua, a rural community that reflects both the challenges and the potential of northern Nicaragua. Families in this region are hardworking and deeply rooted in agriculture, yet economic opportunity is often limited by seasonal income, lack of access to capital, and minimal formal business training.
Why Las Brisas?
Las Brisas was selected for its strong agricultural foundation, available land, and trusted local leadership. The Poultry Institute builds on existing knowledge, transforming small-scale poultry activity into a structured and sustainable enterprise.
Families now follow a 45-day broiler production cycle, supported by training in housing, feed management, and basic financial planning. This approach ensures that production is consistent, measurable, and repeatable.

A key milestone was the first commercial sale to a local restaurant in Somoto, demonstrating that the model is viable within the local market and can move beyond household-level production.
Looking ahead, The Poultry Institute aims to expand production capacity, increase family participation, strengthen local partnerships, and develop a replicable model for other communities.
